About Jack Uxa and his passion for fishing

I have been fishing Lake of the Ozarks since I was a child.  As all little kids, I started fishing for bluegills from the bank.  I grew up in South St. Louis, so fishing time was always at premium.  We would come down to the lake several times during the year and I crammed as much in fishing as a person could.  I remember literally sleeping along the shore with a fishing line out catching carp and catfish.   When I got a little older I started learning lures and really got into bass fishing.  In my early teens John Boats allowed me to get off the bank and really explore the Lake of the Ozarks more.  About this time Fred Kemp (an uncle of mine and founder of U.S Reel) taught me everything he knew about fishing.  Uncle Fred took me fishing almost every weekend.  He taught me, trained me, even quizzed me and did not hold back any secrets what so ever. He truly helped mold me into the fisherman I am today.  We would go to his private lake where I learned the subtle differences that make a good fisherman a great fisherman.

My first job was working at the local tackle store.  Paul’s Bait and Tackle for those of you who have been there.  I remember having to count night crawlers and take care of the crickets and minnow system.  It was my first job and I loved it because it allowed me to be surrounded by the fishing lures and talk with fisherman every day.  When I graduated high school I immediately I moved to the Ozarks.  I went to college and worked at Bass Pro Shops.  There I expanded my fishing knowledge and fishing industry experience.  I started fishing and winning small club tournaments.  I then fished as a Co-angler on some larger regional fishing circuits.  These tournaments allowed me to meet and learn from some very good pro and semi pro fisherman.  During the summertime I moved up north to the Boundary Waters and worked for Gunflint Lodge. There I started guiding.  Taking people fishing, teaching them how to fish and exploring the untapped waters was quite the experience.  I have always known I was going to make my living fishing, but not until guiding for Gunflint lodge did I know exactly how.  I was still a kid, but I was able to do some really cool things at a young age.  I was a "sponge" I fished in Minnesota, Canada all the time learning and catching fish.  I tournament fished in Missouri, Arkansas, and Oklahoma did well, but tournament fishing full time would mean a lot of time away from home and a lot of money.

After college I married my beautiful wife Angela.  We bought a house on the 31mm of Lake of the Ozarks and I got to work learning this lake like the back of my hand.  I started working for Tan-Tar-A Resort and worked my way up to be their fishing guide.  Now I own the best fishing guide service here at the lake.  Many people believe fishing is all luck, I firmly disagree.  Becoming a good fisherman is about knowledge.  It's about putting your time in and fishing all the time.  I love taking people fishing, and now it is my turn to teach you how to fish.  I take everyone from kids wanting to catch their first fish, fathers, sons, mothers, daughters, grandpa, grandma, couples, tournament fisherman and corporate groups with multiple boats for Tan-Tar-A Resort.  Every child that goes on a guided fishing trip with me gets a free gift from Berkley.  Something that they can take back to their neighborhood pond and continue what they started learning with me.  Call Jack's Guide Service and let's go fishing!

Best Wishes,

Jack Uxa
